Description

The jesuit Matteo Ricci published since 1584 a world map in Chinese language, with only known copies of the 1602-edition remaining. The map provides nine place names for the Iberian Peninsula, describing a number of territories, sometimes with conspicuous errors. For example, the Basque Country is labeled as “Andalucia”.
